Aims

Whilst I am on the Next Move Scheme I intend to establish myself as a glass artist by selling work through galleries and trade shows. I would also like to produce work for public and private commissions.

Education

October 2005 - Awarded a place on the Craft Council’s Next Move Scheme, to be based at Wolverhampton University

June 2005 - Graduated from Wolverhampton University with a 2:1 BA Honours in Glass

March 2005 - Two week placement at Peters Glass Studio in Paderborn, Germany

June 2002 - Graduated from the City of Bath College with a Merit Grade in an Art Foundation Course

June 2001- Graduated from the Sir Bernard Lovell Secondary School with an A in A-Level Art, C in A-Level Biology and a D in English Literature

Key Skills

As a glass artist I can produce work using processes such as cutting, fusing, slumping, enamelling, sandblasting and specialist techniques involving kiln work and sheet glass.  My skills are best suited to pieces with areas of detail and intricate pattern.

I have a good knowledge of Photoshop and Microsoft Office

I have held a number of part time jobs and these have taught me relationship skills enabling me to interact well with people and handle difficult situations with greater confidence.

Experience

During the second year of my degree I worked as part of a team to organise an exhibition, which was held at the Lighthouse in Wolverhampton. My responsibility was to design the print and publicity material such as posters, flyers and invitations. The exhibition was well attended and the experience from this show is helping me prepare for our degree show and forthcoming London show

Since the age of 14 I have worked part time as a waitress at Dyrham Park, and been a sales assistant at Millies Cookies, Clarks and Asda. These jobs have taught me skills such as time management, team work, problem solving and communication skills.

Artists Statement

Laura is a recipient of Crafts Council Next Move

Laura's work is inspired by images from nature and the natural world,
such as flowers, plant forms, cells and aerial photographs of the
landscape. She generates ideas through drawing in her sketchbook and
also on a larger scale. Working with media such as inks, pens, and
watercolours, she draws from real life creating her own abstract
images using colour and pattern.

Laura produces a range of decorative glassware on a large and small
scale for the home and business markets. The Ocean Blue range is the
product of a partnership between Laura and Mike Rowe at IGF studios in
Bristol. Her inspiration for the Ocean Blue range came from the cool
blues and greens of the sea. She wanted to create a selection of
pieces to enhance the home environment by making it a calm and
relaxing space.
